Visiting Hours

Rest is an important part of patient’s care and so is the comfort of brief visits by friends and relatives. To ensure that visits do not become an undue strain on patients, visitation hours have been suggested but can be modified based upon the patient's needs and wishes. They vary depending on the severity of the patient’s illness and the patient’s location in the hospital.

Visitor Restrictions

Effective Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, we are making temporary updates to our visitor policy. Due to an increase in respiratory illnesses, we believe this decision is important to help keep our patients and teammates safer. The following changes include inpatient and waiting areas for UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, Hillsborough Campus, UNC Health Chatham and the Youth Behavioral Health campus:

  • Visitors aged 11 and younger are prohibited from all inpatient areas and all waiting rooms.
  • All visitors with respiratory symptoms are prohibited from these same areas.
  • Normal visiting policies will remain in effect for the remaining areas within UNC Hospitals.
  • Healthy visitors of any age remain welcome in our lobbies, gift shops and food locations.

Note: Patient visits by a child 11 years old or younger may be allowed by for exceptional circumstances and compassionate care visits.
