Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is about restoring and correcting body movement to regain your independence in life and with the activities you love. Body movement is affected by many things; including pain, muscle weakness, limitations in joint motion, coordination, and balance. As the factors that are adversely affecting your body movement are corrected, it is our hope to increase your independence and overall movement in life so that you can return to participate in the activities that you enjoy. These activities may range from reading your favorite book or cooking to more intense activities like yard work and organized sports. No matter what the activity is that you are hoping to return to, you can be assured that whatever your goals may be, they are our goals as well.

What can you do for me?
Whether your pain or weakness just started recently or has been a problem for years, our licensed therapy staff is ready to help design a treatment plan suited to your individual needs. In many cases, we work closely with your physician to design your individualized treatment plan. Our therapy staff is trained in techniques that include specific and targeted exercises and stretches, activity modification, activities to improve balance and coordination, and therapeutic modalities that are designed to improve healing and reduce your pain.

How do I begin?
Although by North Carolina law, individuals who desire physical therapy are not required to have a physician's prescription to begin physical therapy it is Chatham Hospital policy and the policy of insurance providers to require a physician's prescription to participate in physical therapy. If you are interested in beginning a physical therapy program, you should request a prescription from your physician and then bring the prescription to the Chatham Hospital Wellness Center to schedule your initial evaluation.

What can I expect?
After your 60 minute initial evaluation, your physical therapist will collaborate with you to determine the optimal treatment plan and set your personal therapy goals. Our scheduling staff will try their best to accommodate your scheduling requests within our 8:00AM-5:00PM clinic hours. At Chatham Hospital Physical Therapy, your treatment sessions will typically be 45 minutes in length and the activities performed will depend on your individual situation and therapy goals.

What do you expect of me?
During your time at Chatham Hospital Physical Therapy, you will learn many therapeutic exercises, stretches, and activities that are targeted to treat your particular movement impairments or pain. As our therapy staff instructs you in your personalized exercise treatment plan, it is our expectation and goal that you will be empowered in the process to take an active role in your own recovery and improvement so that you may return to the activities and the lifestyle that you enjoy.
