Chatham Hospital Expanding

As appeared in The Chatham News

Chatham Hospital will be expanding its new facilities starting early next year when construction begins on a new 31,000 square foot facility.

The addition will be built behind the existing hospital in the Central Carolina Business Campus off US 64 in Siler City.

Chatham Hospital CEO Carol Straight said that a road will be built off of Campus Drive that will give patients access to the new facility.

The medical facility will be home to several hospital departments. The business and information technology offices, as well as all physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes education will all be relocated to the new medical facility.

Straight said that a community resource and conference center will also be included in the new facility.

“Our hope is that the whole community will be able to use it,” Straight said.

In addition to housing hospital functions, the new facility will also contain the offices for Chatham Primary Care, Chatham Surgical Associates, as well as other physicians.

The new facility will also have offices for specialty physicians who may want to hold a clinic in the area.

Straight says that the new facility will be a benefit to both patients and hospital staff.

“Currently some of the hospital facilities are in rented spaces,” Straight said.

“Having them located beside us is going to be much more convenient for the patient and the staff,” Straight said.

“The facility will also bring some much needed space for staff expansion.

“We have no room for new doctors. [The new facility] is really needed for that,” Straight said.

“Construction on the new fa-cility is slated to begin in February of 2010 and is expected to open in early 2011.
